Identical twins. Identical DNA. Identical suspects. It’s Pretty Little Liarsmeets Revenge in this edge-of-your-seat thriller with a shocking twist.
When they were little, Lexi and her identical twin, Ava, made up a third sister, Alicia. If something broke? Alicia did it. Cookies got eaten? Alicia’s guilty. Alicia was always to blame for everything. The game is all grown up now that the girls are seniors. They use Alicia as their cover to go out with boys who are hot but not exactly dating material. Boys they’d never, ever be with in real life.
Now one of the guys Alicia went out with has turned up dead, and Lexi wants to stop the game for good. As coincidences start piling up, Ava insists that if they follow the rules for being Alicia, everything will be fine. But when another boy is killed, the DNA evidence and surveillance photos point to only one suspect: Alicia. The girl who doesn’t exist. As she runs from the cops, Lexi has to find the truth before another boy is murdered. Because either Ava is a killer…or Alicia is real.

I think what I was expecting from this story was some kind of MAJOR, blow my mind plot twist at the end.
Yeah… didn’t really happen.
I didn’t predict what the ending would be, but when it happened, I wasn’t surprised.
Switching from the end to the beginning though, this book was set up fantastically. I loved the way that we were introduced to Alicia, the suspense and how the mystery built up so quickly. Almost none of this story is wasted, and all of it leads to the ending… which was the only thing that disappointed me, because it seemed a little anticlimactic.
While I didn’t love the ending, I did think it was realistic–which is part of the reason I didn’t mind it too much. THE THIRD TWIN is about twins (or is it?) and I enjoyed the way that Omololu kept all of the characters straight, with all their unique personalities in check. I liked seeing the different relationships change and evolve as each character begins to turn on one another and things start shaping up like something straight out of a TV drama.
This had a very LIARS, INC. sort of vibe to me, where a few select characters are constantly on the run with police chasing after them for something they weren’t responsible for. If you liked LIARS, I would definitely recommend this to you, and vice versa. There’s so many great chase scenes and everything happens in a linear manner that isn’t hard to understand.
All in all, I would recommend this story. It was a great mystery with great characters and everything checked out pretty nicely. 4.3 stars.
