The Mondays Musts is a feature by Jessica @ Lovin’ los Libros! Every Monday, you post about your must read, must listen and must watch.
Classic books aren’t always great. Sometimes they’re just contrived and slowwwwww. Other times, they’re repetitive and preachy. And then there are the books with so much rambling that you just have to ask yourself who cares?
They aren’t perfect, but many of them are classics for a reason, and one of my favorite books is Les Misérables by Victor Hugo.
Its title literally translates to “The Miserables”, and some would say it’s depressing, but it’s really not. It’s a story about one man’s deliverance from evil. It’s not as exciting as an adventure novel, but it’s far from boring. You see good people accused of bad things, and bad people who attempt to become good despite the prejudice they now face.
Yes, it’s about the miserables. It’s about a wicked girl who knows her love will always be unrequited, but can’t help hoping anyway. It’s about an orphan whose mother never meant to leave her. It’s about an ex-convict who just can’t seem to get it right. It’s about the kind of horror that only life can be.
But it’s also about hope and love and redemption.
I’ve been on an instrumental kick lately (see last week’s Monday Musts for one of my favorite guitarists) because I find it’s easier to code and write to than regular music, and one of my favorite instrumentalists is the band Black Violin. I went to one of their concerts by chance when they were on tour, and I ended up in falling in love with A Flat.
One of my favorite YouTubers is Domics, who animoots about everything from gaming to retail to pet peeves.
