Taylor Simmons is screwed.
Things were hard enough when her single-minded dedication to her studies earned her the reputation of being an Ice Queen, but after getting drunk at a party and waking up next to bad boy surfer Evan McKinley, the entire school seems intent on tearing Taylor down with mockery and gossip.
Desperate to salvage her reputation, Taylor persuades Evan to pretend they’re in a serious romantic relationship. After all, it’s better to be the girl who tames the wild surfer than just another notch on his surfboard.

If you had to describe The Way To Game the Walk of Shame using other books, what is The Way to Game the Walk of Shame?
I’d say in the wonderful world where books and movies meet, it’s a mashup of ANNA AND THE FRENCH KISS and EASY A.
How did you come up with the title of The Way to Game the Walk of Shame?
I actually can’t take the credit for the brilliant title. My original title was THE LOVE CONTRACT and my editors suggested changing it to THE WAY TO GAME THE WALK OF SHAME. It took me a while to get used to saying it because it’s a bit of a tongue twister, but I’m getting better at it now.
What advice would you give on writing romance?
I think writing romance is the same as writing any other genre. Do your research and read widely. Know what other people have done and how they write it successfully. And then just write.
What is your writing fuel?
I don’t do anything in particular when I write. Sometimes I write during the day and other times I write at night so I don’t munch or drink anything. Strangely enough, I don’t like to drink coffee either. I love the smell, but don’t care for the taste.
What’s one thing you want readers to know before they read The Way to Game the Walk of Shame?
I want them to know that this isn’t a serious book about slut shaming. Slut shaming is a very serious issue and it’s definitely something that shouldn’t happen. But it’s not an issue that I dive into very thoroughly in The Way to Game the Walk of Shame. Sure, Taylor gets bullied, but it’s more because of who she is rather than what she did (or who). And it’s about how she deals with it in her own way.
What Harry Potter houses do your characters belong to?
Taylor would definitely be a Ravenclaw with a hidden dose of Slytherin while Evan could be either Gryffindor or Hufflepuff.
What have been your favorite 2016 debuts so far this year?
There’s been so many awesome books that I barely know where to start. And one of the best things about being a debut author is that I’ve been able to read a bunch of 2016 debuts way before their release dates. SUMMER OF SLOANE was a particular favorite of mine along with ARROWS and FIRSTS. And although they’re not all debuts, I’ve also gotten ARCs of many Swoon Read books and they’re all AWESOME.
