It’s almost time for Fall, and Liz @ Let’s Book About It created this TBR tag to celebrate the changing of the seasons! There are some books I’m really excited to start that are releasing or I’ll be reading this Fall, so this post came at a good time for me :D Thanks to Kaitlin from A Mismatched Reader for tagging me!
Crisp fall leaves fall to the ground. The red, yellow and orange looks oh so pretty. What book on your TBR shelf is just as pretty?
Blood Red Snow White by Marcus Sedgwick
Reading this is probably a mistake because I don’t have good memories of Sedgwick’s The Ghosts of Heaven even though I liked it at the time. I’ve heard that this one has more of a linear storyline, so we’ll see what happens. If not, at least it has a beautiful cover! It’s releasing October 25th, 2016.
Fall scents are so warm and inviting. Old books smell just as welcoming. What’s the oldest book on your shelf? (or had the longest)
Oh boy. This one’s tough to estimate because I’ve inherited some of my parents’ books. I’d say the oldest book I have is a paperback abridged copy of Les Misérables by Victor Hugo, one of my favorite books of all time. I’ve also have a set of Babar elements books that have been around as long as I can remember.
Fall means cooler temps, thank goodness! What book on your shelf would be the perfect “curl up with a blanket” book?
Twelve Days of Dash and Lily by Rachel Cohn & David Levithan
I picked this up at BEA 2016, and I’ve been waiting for the perfect circumstances to read it in. I think a really cold day and a hot cup of tea or coffee or cocoa would be awesome to read this with. As of recently, I’ve been thinking I’ll read it during the Slowathon read-a-thon :D I loved the first one in this series, and I’m hoping this one will be just as good.
Fall also brings Halloween. Do you have a spooky or creepy book on your shelf?
I tend to stay away from spooky/creepy books, but yes, I do! Amy Lukavic’s The Women in the Walls and Dawn Kurtagich’s And the Trees Crept In are both on my shelves. I’m holding off on The Women in the Walls, and I’ll most likely end up trading or giving it away to a friend because it’s really not my type of book, but I’m thinking I’ll read And the Trees Crept In within the next few weeks.
Thanksgiving is for family, whether it’s blood or friendship. What book makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside?
Calvin & Hobbes by Bill Watterson
Calvin and Hobbes! So much love for these books. Paula Stokes’ Girl Against the Universe is a close second, but I think these comics have the perfect blend of silly, ridiculous, and heartwarming. There are sprinkles of seriousness among the fun of it all, and the entire thing makes for a timeless series.
Sweet Potatoes, Pumpkins and Apples are my fall favorites. What book are you just dying to read?
STRANGE THE DREAMER! I have been DYING for this book ever since I read the sampler (believe me, it’s the first time I’ve ever said that and really meant it). Strange the Dreamer has already been in my Monday Musts and Top Ten Tuesday, and I would do a Waiting on Wednesday, but I think that’d be beating a dead horse.
Seriously though. I cannot wait for this story. The writing is gorgeous and decadent and smart and funny, and I already care about the characters even though the sampler. I need to know what happens. September 27th can’t get here quickly enough. Period, the end.
There is one downside to Fall: shorter days (oh and that pesky heating bill). What’s one book sitting on your shelf that you aren’t too eager to pick up?
Gemina by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman
Okay, don’t take this the wrong way… but it’s Gemina. *waits for the fandom’s stampede to trample me* Don’t get me wrong, I loved Illuminae as much as the next guy, but think about it: No matter what, I don’t win.
If I hate it (which is honestly pretty unlikely), then I lose this amazing series.
If I love it, then I have to slow down and savor every page of its 500 pages, because the next one doesn’t come out until next year.
If I hold off on it, I DON’T GET TO READ GEMINA. Not even when it’s sitting right on top of my shelf.
If I don’t hold off on it, then I have to fall into either the love it or hate it categories.
I know I’ll read it sometime soon, but I’m still debating how to go about this tricky process.
Fall means you can turn off the AC and open those windows wide. Do you have a book on your shelf that is like a breath of fresh air?
So I guess this one doesn’t count because I’ve already read it, but I can totally go for a reread. This Savage Song was the first book that came to mind when I read the prompt. This story has ALL THE THINGS. Or, actually, it’s mostly a breath of fresh air because of what it doesn’t have: romance. Yup, This Savage Song is basically just monsters of men and mayhem, and it’s glorious.
Fall always seems to go by too quickly. Name the book you can get through the fastest and the one that will take you forever.
The title and cover of the 8th Amulet book isn’t released yet, so I’ll just go with the 7th. Graphic novels generally go quickly for me anyway, and that coupled with Kazu Kibuishi’s mind-bending plot lines make me go through them really quickly. However, I keep on coming back to reread. They’re amazing books.
Anddddd then there’s Hard Times. The title is actually a two-word review of the book. I found it very difficult to read this one, but I loved the ending and the main message of the story, which keeps me coming back to it.
Lastly, we all cheat! LOL! If you’re going to cheat (buy books) during the months of Fall, what books would you deem worthy?
I did a more extensive post on this for Top Ten Tuesday, but if I could only pick one book, I would have to say Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson. I’m dying for a reread even though it’s only been a little bit past a year since I read it. It’s just that good. And I’ve been eyeing buying it for a while, but I’ve haven’t found a good reason to yet. Fall might just be the time to pick it up again!
Also, if I can’t get my hands on an ARC copy (rest assured I’ll be trying my hardest once I see them coming out), I’ll be buying Strange the Dreamer for sure. ^-^
