The Mondays Musts is a feature by Jessica @ Lovin’ los Libros! Every Monday, you post about your must read, must listen and must see.
Every week, I pick my musts based on a certain theme. The theme for last week’s picks was hardcore girls who have overcome difficulty. In Open Road Summer, Reagan is a character who has messed up a lot in her life, but she’s doing the best she can to get better. The song Sober kind of tells the same story. As for the Must See, Demi’s been through so much with rehab and leaving Disney and building up a new image for herself over the past couple of years, and it’s been great to see her getting back on her feet.
When I initially read How to Love, I rated it pretty low because I didn’t feel like I really connected with the book, and I didn’t agree with the moral choices of the characters that were promoted as okay things to do (like cheating).
I still don’t agree with those things, but How to Love has grown on me over time. I still think about this book sometimes, which says something for it since it’s been over two years since I read this book last. I think I’m due for a reread to make sure I like it as much as I think I like it, but the truth of it right now is that this story is written really well.
It’s about people who have hurt each other. It’s about forgiveness and friendship and learning how to love. This is the kind of book that creeps up on you over time and makes you remember it even years after you read it, and its characters are the sleepy, quiet kind of resilient that’s realistic and refreshing to read about.
I could probably listen to just Shiver for entire days. I can’t explain exactly why it’s a must, but I know that it is. I think it fits perfectly with the upcoming seasons, and I can see myself listening to it a lot in the months to come.
There’s this Dutch nature photographer that I found on instagram lately that posts under the username @vincentcroce. Huffington Post described his work by saying that “trees are his main characters, and leaves his allies.” He gives new meaning to #solotree.
If you did a Monday Musts, link it below and I’ll check it out! Any guesses on what the theme was for this week’s picks? Comment your guess, and I’ll reveal the answer in next week’s post.
