Today for Top Ten Tuesday, I’m doing my own theme! Way back in 2015, I got nominated for my first Liebster Award by Steph @ Doodle’s Book Reviews. For those of you who don’t know, the Liebster Award is a blog award for discovering great blogs by awesome people. While I was looking back at old posts, I realized that most of my eleven facts were really outdated and/or represented a different period of my life and/or there are other, more prominent facts about me now. So, without further ado, here are eleven different, current facts about me:
I’m a coder
This is a development that happened officially in 2016. Before then, I guess it was true because I was playing with code and self-teaching myself on Codecademy and a few different languages, but in 2016, I took an Intro to Computer Science class, and that really kicked off my official coding career.
My favorite movie is Like Sunday, Like Rain
I actually covered this when it happened through my Monday Musts, but since 2015, Like Sunday, Like Rain has overtaken Inception as my favorite movie. Inception is a work of art, yes, but so is Like Sunday, Like Rain in a completely different way. It’s insightful and emotionally hard-hitting, and I enjoy it more for personal reasons than for admiration reasons. Maybe all favorites should be like that.
My official favorite book is Champion
I’ve finally come to the conclusion that I should have a favorite book, as horrible as the idea of narrowing it down was. I still stick to the idea that it really depends on context, but my all-around favorite book is Marie Lu’s incredible Champion. If you want to see more about why, you can read my full throwback review.
I love calc, but calc doesn’t love me back T-T
Translation: I love school.
Even when it’s in subjects that I have to work at, school’s a lot of fun for me, and I love learning new things (which definitely helps in the comp sci realm). In everything from business law to fine arts, I like finding the beauty in the subject.
I would be lost without Google Apps
There are a few different great apps I use on a day-to-day basis, but Google deserves a shoutout. They’re not always the greatest, but their Drive suite is perfect for what I need. I use Docs on a pretty day-to-day basis, and Calendar and Gmail are lifesavers (though I’m not loving the ads in gmail).
Ice cream is one of my favorite foods ^-^
I think it’s important to have favorites, and ice cream has become my favorite dessert. At any city around the world, there’s great ice cream to be found and tried :D there’s something about how many derivatives and cousins it has, from gelato to shaved ice, and how smooth, cold, and subtly sweet it can be. It’s easy to do, hard to do well. Currently, the best ice cream I’ve ever had would have to be at Sweet Republic in Phoenix or Bluebird Ice Cream in Seattle.
And I also enjoy puns :D
This is not so much new as it it discovered. I’ve thought that clever wordplay was fascinating for as long as I can remember, but puns never really seemed like things that were celebrated and enjoyed, even the ones I thought were truly great. Last summer, I ended up making a new friend at the program I was at who was unabashedly a pun fanatic (she’s won pun competitions!) and I thought that was awesome, so I decided to follow in her footsteps.
I’m a Christian
This has been true my entire life, but in the last few years, my faith has really become my own. It’s something to work on everyday, but it’s changed the way I read and the way I hope to live my life.
I’m a dog person!
I got a new dog in late 2015. Her name’s Rei (pronounced ray), and she’s an Australian Cattle Dog Blue Heeler. I ended up starting an Instagram for her, and fast forward two years later, she has 940 followers. It’s crazy to look through the photos and recognize how much time has gone by. She comes with us everywhere, and her journey has been a lot of fun to document.
I’m passionate about the arts
Growing up, I got the chance to experiment with and gain an appreciation for many different kinds of art. The non-literary ones that are the most apparent on the blog are music and dance due to posts I’ve done around the blogosphere, but I also enjoy theater, improv, spoken word poetry, photography, videography, and graphic design. I’ve done a little bit of each here and there except for spoken word poetry, which I think would be super cool to try someday.
I’m a runner
More like a jogger, but I’m working on it.
I’m that person who can genuinely say that I benefited from P.E. My walking fitness class was really hardcore, so I started running to stay ahead of the curve. Thanks to a variety of factors, I didn’t stop running when summer came around, and I hope I never will.
That’s it for my eleven facts! What’s changed for you in the past few years?
