Oregon Shakespeare Festival 2013

I went down to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival for the 2013 season in Ashland, Oregon. The Oregon Shakespeare Festival is a gathering every year that happens in Ashland, Oregon and holds plays and celebrates the Shakespearan culture. It was a lot of fun to go and I hope that I’ll make it down to Ashland again sometime to go again! Below are links to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival website and the No Fear Shakespeare Sparknotes series. The No Fear Shakespeare series is a really great series of Shakespeare’s plays with the original Shakespearean text and a side-by-side translation. It’s really great for understanding and reading the original thing. It’s my favorite, and I hope you can find it useful as well!

Day 1
Drove three hours and got to a rest stop in Oregon, between Salem and Corvallis. Ate lunch on the grass, enjoyed the beautiful weather. Drove about four-five hours later and got to Ashland. Drove to Southern Oregon University and got assigned dorms…with one of my best friends! Ate dinner, and went to an acting class. We played games and one of the coolest things we did was we would create a scene with everyone in our group frozen in a position. Then the audience would have to guess what the scene was.

Day 2
Woke up at 6:10. Wrote, read and was on my phone/laptop until 6:45. Got ready to go and then headed down to the cafeteria and ate breakfast. Had an awesome backstage tour of the three Oregon Shakespeare Festival theaters and then went straight into a King Lear recap. Finished the recap, went out to lunch and ate in Lithia Park. Took a break and hung around in Lithia Park for a while then walked to Thomas Theatre to watch the play King Lear. After we finished a great retelling of King Lear, we went back to the dorms, ate dinner and met back up again at 8:00 to watch The Taming of the Shrew. The Taming of the Shrew was funny and great to see come alive on stage. The Taming of the Shrew finished at about 10:30, and we went back to the dorms to sleep.

Day 3
Woke up, ate breakfast, relaxed and then walked over to the festival to talk with Lucentio from the Taming of the Shrew. He was really nice and we had a great time. Ate lunch, went to the park and then walked around Ashland. Watched My Fair Lady. It was pretty good but too long. Headed back to the dorms for a stage fighting workshop and then ate dinner. Went over to the outdoor Elizabethan Theatre to watch The Heart of Robin Hood. It was a lot of fun and I really liked it! Drove back to the dorms, showered and now going to bed…

Day 4
Got up, ate breakfast, loaded up the cars and headed home. Stopped for lunch at Carl’s Jr and Subway and passed Olympia, WA about four hours later. Got home and rested. Good to be home!
